The superjumbo, which can carry more than 500 passengers, landed on Thursday at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, after departing from Paris the night before.
This is the second time the A380 has landed in Johannesburg. The first time was in November 2006, when its manufacturer, Airbus Industries, successfully conducted proving tests.
The company said that the A380 would operate three weekly flights between Paris and Johannesburg up to April. Thereafter, the route would then be entirely operated by A380.
The Airports Company South Africa had invested more than R200-million to make the airport compliant with new, large-aircraft requirements. Depending on the configuration, the A380 could carry 30% more passengers when compared with a Boeing 747 aircraft.
