South Africa has done exceptionally well in its preparations for the World Cup, according to the National Treasury’s 2010 FIFA World Cup unit head. The delivery model was streamlined to eliminate “political gymnastics” and create uncomplicated management tools.
These tools included the roles and responsibilities, tighter management and adherence to deadlines and roles and responsibilities were assigned. Budget included macroeconomic stability, reporting on public expenditure and equitable contribution of resources and maintaining fiscal governance. This maintained focus and reduced ad hoc funding requests and introduced elements of cost control. It also streamlined the transfer of funds to the point of delivery.
