Statistics released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa), Associated Motor Holdings and Amalgamated Automobile Distributors showed that new vehicle sales jumped 22% compared with October last year, ending the month at 44 055 units.
Passenger car sales rose 25% while light commercial vehicle sales increased 13,6% over the same month last year. October sales of new medium and heavy trucks increased by 0,6%, and a massive 51,4% respectively. Naamsa said that the sales of heavy trucks suggested renewed fixed investment in the economy.
Year-to-date sales for the total South African new vehicle industry remained a healthy 23,8% ahead of the same ten-month period in 2009.
New vehicle exports in October increased by 30,5%, compared with October last year.
