October vehicle sales soar.

Statistics released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa), Associated Motor Holdings and Amalgamated Automobile Distributors showed that new vehicle sales jumped 22% compared with October last year, ending the month at 44 055 units.

Passenger car sales rose 25% while light commercial vehicle sales increased 13,6% over the same month last year. October sales of new medium and heavy trucks increased by 0,6%, and a massive 51,4% respectively. Naamsa said that the sales of heavy trucks suggested renewed fixed investment in the economy.

Year-to-date sales for the total South African new vehicle industry remained a healthy 23,8% ahead of the same ten-month period in 2009.

New vehicle exports in October increased by 30,5%, compared with October last year.
