SA safer for tourists than Spain, Thailand or Germany

South Africa is a safer British tourist destination than Spain, Thailand or even Germany, according to a report which examined the behaviour of British tourists from April, 2008, to March, 2009 released by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Most countries had very low numbers of sexual assault of Britons abroad. However, there were 28 reported in Greece, 10 in Cyprus and 36 in Turkey. There were no sexual offences reported for South Africa.

Statistically, Thailand was the least safe destination. British tourists were most likely to be arrested for drug offences or admitted to hospital and most likely to die - all in Thailand.

Where South Africa did fall short was in passport theft. This article was originally published in The Star on March 25, 2010.p1
