Heineken sees scope for top-end beer in SA.

The opening of the 3-million- hectolitre brewery, already being extended to 4-million and designed with capacity for expansion to 6-million, allows Heineken to go head to head with rival SAB on home turf.

SA is one of three often overlooked emerging markets with great potential for premium beer sales, Heineken CEO Jean-François van Boxmeer said yesterday. While the focus on emerging markets was usually on the “Brics” — Brazil, Russia, India and China — SA, along with Mexico and Vietnam, were “often forgotten” markets the Dutch beer giant can not ignore.
