South Africa’s maize output highest in 29 years.

The Crop Estimates Committee’s survey of production for this season is expecting the country’s highest forecast maize crop in 29 years, according Reuters.

South Africa’s maize output forecast for the 2009/10 season is likely to be around 13,33 million tonnes. Traders said favourable weather conditions and steady rains this month had boosted the anticipated bumper harvest, expected to enable the continent’s major agriculture hub and largest economy to continue to be a key global exporter of the grain during the next marketing season.
